Braaaaaaaains! How I, Almost, Survived the Zombie Apocalypse.
What’s more fun than running? Running from zombies of course. Yesterday I had the opportunity to take part in an inaugural Zombie Run (https://www.thezombierun.com) here in Philly. There are races lined up in 9 other cities with possibly four more two follow.
The race took place in FDR park. Each participant was given three “life balloons” which they attached to a special belt. To “survive” you needed to keep at least one balloon. The zombies were all over the course at various locations doing their zombie thing. They would jump out at you and chase you trying to pop your life balloons. I did pretty well and had all three of my balloons for most of the race but two gauntlets of 6 hungry zombies each took out my first two balloons. The last one I lost when I was distracted by an adorably frightening little kid zombie. I was avoiding him and his dad got my last balloon, taking my final life. Only one member of my team ended with any balloons and he only ended with one. From what I saw the zombies were hungry because very few people ended with any balloons.
I am not much of a runner but have been running, or trying to, since last May. This was my second 5k, the first one also being a zombie run. In my first 5k the runners dressed as zombies and we weren’t chased. With this I really enjoyed having to bob an weave around and through zombies trying to pop my balloons. If the zombie apocalypse is coming to a city near you I suggest you sign up and get training.
