How to Make Delicious Chocolate Covered Bacon

Finished Chocolate Covered Bacon!

Yesterday I saw this tweet which reminded me that i have been dying to make some chocolate covered bacon. I have seen and heard about this amazing delicacy for quite some time now but have never tried it. This was my call to duty.  I hopped to action. Armed only with a half pound of bacon and a bag of chocolate chips I got started.

Uncooked Bacon

First the bacon, I’m not sure how you cook your bacon but we cook our’s in the oven. It allows you too cook an entire pound of bacon all at once and leaves your stove top free for other things, like melting chocolate. (For oven cooking cook it at 400 for 10 to 15 minutes or until done.)

Chips starting to melt

While the bacon is cooking away in the oven melt a cup (or more if you think you need it) of chocolate chips. We have an induction cook top so I’m able to put the bowl right on the  burner and use the lowest setting, it worked like a charm. You can also use a microwave or double boiler.

Melted Chocolate. Yum!By this point the bacon should be done. Cut the bacon into smaller pieces. This is easier while it’s still warm that way it doesn’t break, I cut my into three pices per strip.

Cooked Bacon

Now the fun begins. Get the chocolate on the bacon! Dipping, dredging or otherwise covering the bacon with chocolate.I tried dredging and spooning. The spooning worked the best to coat the bacon. I also left a sliver uncovered so that it could be easily held while coating with chocolate and also for ease of eating later.

Chocolate Coverd Bacon Once covered lay them out on a silicone baking sheet or some waxed paper and then resist the urge to pull them off while still melty and eat them. When I go to this point I didn’t have the patience to let these harden on their own so I stuck them in the freezer for a few minutes and it worked like a charm. Now all there is to do is to eat the bacon!!!

These salty sweet snacks were delicious, way beyond my expectations. My only regret is that I didn’t have a full pound of bacon. These things flew out of the bowl and disappeared in a matter of hours.

We went to the PA Farm Show yesterday, and there was a stand selling this for $2 a piece! She said she had sold 1400 pieces all week. I love chocolate, and I love bacon, but still not ready to make this leap.

Oh it’s so tasty though. The saltiness of the bacon with the sweetness of the chocolate can’t be beat. 1,400 pieces in a week at $2 a pop. Where can I set up a stand? 😉
