Building the Greenhouse – Part 2

Greenhouse Geraniums.

So it’s been quite a while since we started building our green house. Even though it took us several weekends it really doesn’t take that long it’s just that life got in the way, a good friend had a baby and I got a killer cold all at the same time but I’m happy to report it’s done! Finished! Complete! We still have to get a thermometer for it but I’ve put our geraniums out there anyway so we’ll see how it goes.

Part of our delay, besides life, was waiting on our snap clamps to come.  These simple pvc clamps made attaching the plastic to the PVC pipe super easy! As you can see below you just pop it onto the pipe. Putting the plastic on took about 15 minutes with these things.

Because the greenhouse is on our deck we have a built in sliding door to access it from the house so we were lucky and didn’t have to bother with building a door. Another added benefit is the ability to secure it to the house. We used U shaped pipe clamps to secure it to the deck railing and the overhang. Along the house I used white duct tape to strengthen the plastic and I simply stapled it to the wood siding. We got rain last night and quite a bit of wind and it weathered the storm nicely, and with no leaks!

Door to the Greenhouse

They’re calling for snow showers this week so we’ll see how it does with that but I think it’s going to do fine. I’ve been doing some reading about what we might be able to grow in there, besides just getting my starts going, and I’ve read that a greenhouse will kick you up a zone so I’m thinking peanuts! That will come later though for now all I need to do is finish up my garden plan and get my starts in there. What are your garden plans for this year?
