Pie Day!
Today is the day I’ve been waiting for, preparing for and practicing for! Today I’m entering my Curry Apple Pie recipe in a pie baking competition at our CSA’s harvest festival sponsored by Greener Partners. I have made many test pies and tired various things to perfect the type of pie that I was going to make. I originally made what I called a Jumbleberry Pie, which was mixed berries and cherries which was ok and a simple apple pie which also was ok. Neither pie got oohs and ahhhs from friends and family.
I kept researching various pie recipes and thinking about various fillings. Then I heard a wonderful interview on NPR’s The Splended Table with Melissa Clark, author of In the Kitchen with A Good Appetite , where she talks about her 20 ingredient pie and general guidelines for pie fillings and spices. Her interview set my mind free to wander away from the recipes. This is when I came up with my very own recipe for a Curry Apple Pie and in testing it on family and friends I got the ooohs and aaaahs I was looking for. Now regardless of whether I win or lose the competition, though winning would be nice, I win because I now have a great pie recipe which my family and friends enjoy. I’ll post the recipe tomorrow but until then here’s some pictures of the process.
That’s an awesome idea! I hope you win!
My CSA is having a potluck tomorrow and I’ve been spending some time thinking of what I’m going to make.
I’m probably making these Butternut Squash and Feta muffins.

I’ve made them before and they’re a HUGE hit. Hopefully, the people at my CSA will think so too. 🙂
Those look great. I’m definitely going to try them.
Jenn, these pics are *awesome* and so is the pie! You should make a cookbook. Seriously.
