Laura Bush to appear on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"

The Seattle Times: Television: Laura Bush to appear on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”: “Facing criticism that he appeared disengaged from the disaster wrought by Hurricane Katrina, President Bush has been looking for opportunities to show his concern. But the White House will take the effort a step further Tuesday, venturing into untested waters by putting the nation’s first lady on reality television.

Laura Bush will travel to storm-damaged Biloxi, Miss., to film a spot on the feel-good, wish-granting hit ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.’ Mrs. Bush sought to be on the program because she shares the ‘same principles’ that the producers hold, her press secretary said.”

I can not believe this. The Bushes live in their own little bubble and are entirely disconnected from the reality of what normal people deal with on a regular basis. I’m sure that she thinks this ‘reality’ show represents real life but that just further shows how disconnected and elitist they are. Her time would be better spent volunteering or using her power and position to organize something that would help large numbers of families get back on their feet rather than just one who is deemed worthy by television producers. One other thing to note the house is in white suburban Biloxi, Miss.
