Homes for the Bees

Bee houses.

We live in a wood sided house a.k.a a carpenter bee’s all you can eat buffet. In the past we have put powder in their holes to kill them but we’ve come to realize what beneficial creatures they can be so about a year ago we decided to stop that and make some bee houses to entice them to build their nests some other place and give them a head start.

To make these bee houses we grabbed some scrap chunks of wood and cut them so there would be a bit of an overhang for a “roof”, to keep the water out. We then drilled several 1/8″ holes to give the bees a good place to start.

These have been in the yard for a year now and I’m happy to say that we have occupants! Now if we can just keep them out of the lawn equipment I’ll be happy.
