Friday Finds – Free Reading Resources for Homeschooling

I am always on the lookout for good reading resources for my kids.  In fact I’m always on the lookout for free high quality learning materials of any kind to use with my kids. This week I found some great ones, in addition to the free educational materials from NASA that I posted earlier this week.

For parents/home educators the LINCS (Literacy Information and Communication System) offers free publications on various topics, including reading.  A couple that caught my eye were; Shining Stars: First Graders Learn To Read: How Parents Can Help Their First Graders Learn To Read and Dad’s Playbook: Coaching Kids To Read.  These are both PDFs and available for immediate download.  Reading Rockets also has some educational guides for parents and educators.

Over at Read.gov there is a whole wealth of Classic Children’s Books that kids can read online.  My kid’s favorite free reading resource is Starfall.com.  Starfall a free website that teaches phonics through storytelling and games. It also has full stories to boost a young reader’s confidence.  The WatchKnow website aggregates child safe, educational, video content from all over the web.  They have an entire section devoted to Beginning Reading.

What our some of your favorite free reading resources?
