The leaves are turning, the temperature is dropping and it’s finally fireplace season. Nothing is more relaxing to me than sitting by the fire and knitting. Although I learned to knit as a child, I was never very good. Over the last few years I have worked on my knitting skills. I have knitted some simple hats, washcloths, fingerless gloves and small toys. All of this knitting has helped me to become a more proficient knitter. I no longer have much issue with circular needles and I am familiar with various ways of increasing and decreasing, although I swear I end up pulling out 1/4 of my knitting to correct mistakes on each and every project.
This year as knitting came to mind and yarns called to me from the shelves of the local craft store I decided to try my hand at cable knitting. I have see friends make amazing things with cable knitted patterns, but I have stuck with simple things myself. My first adventure into cable knitting was this Star Crossed Slouchy Beret from Ravelry. It knitted up surprisingly quickly and was a great introduction to cable knitting.
This emboldened me and I took on a more adventurous cable knit hat for my husband. The pattern I chose was this Winter Beach Hat that I found over at Suemitch Loves to Knit. This pattern was a little more complicated and took quite a bit more time but I still finished it fairly quickly. I knitted this pattern with a nice rust colored yarn.
Now that I’m done those I plan on starting in on this Trellis Inspired Beanie which I found over at Crisis of Praxis, with the remainder of my rust colored yarn. I have a couple of friends who have had babies lately and I’d love to give them a little something to help keep them warm as the air chills.
What are you planning on knitting up this fall?

Thanks. I’m glad you like the hat.
I’ve since created a similar patterned beret for myself.
I’ve found the cable pattern quick and simple to knit.
