Re-energize a Wooden Railway for Older Kids

Over the years we’ve collected tons of wooden railway pieces.  My girls used to love to set up tracks and move the trains around but over the last year or so interest had wained so much so that I considered donating or selling the set.  Then I discovered the battery powered motorized engines that are out there so I got my youngest a Battery Powered Thomas for Christmas.  It totally did the trick.  My 5 year old now plays with the train set daily and sets up some pretty intricate tracks.  She even adds her dinosaurs and other animals in to create complete landscapes.

How do you re-energize old toys?

We renewed our train set by having a 3rd child! Now that he is into it, the girls are busy busy busy building him “the greatest track in the world!” We also got a steal on a pile of used track at christmas, so many joining and curved pieces that they can really build complex designs.

Love the dinosaurs! (We’ve a bit of the “dinosaur train” going on over here at the moment.)

    1. Angie, I think my method’s a little less intense 😉

I did the same thing the Christmas before last. My son had many train pieces, but his bridge was broken…So I bought pieces to make a couple bridges and a battery operated engine and he started pulling it out every single day! Great way to make old toys new again!
