Getting Corny – Corn Husk Dolls
[ad name=”Above Content”]
At our CSA’s harvest festival over the weekend I was a volunteer and I was tasked with helping both children and disabled adults create corn husk dolls. I had a blast. These dolls are very simple to make and my friend and I assisted in the making of around 150 dolls. In addition to the corn husks there was twine and raffia which could be used to create braids, hair and clothing. It was amazing to see the variety that the kids and adults would come up with.
There are quite a few good tutorials out there on how to make corn husk dolls. Here are a few:
- TeachersFirst.com has a great hand drawn tutorial.
- Garden Mama uses husks fresh off the cob and wire in her beautifully photographed tutorial.
- Thrifty Creativity has written step by step instructions along with a printable hand drawn illustration.
Like I said these are just a few of many wonderful tutorials that are out there. Have you made corn husk dolls? Share your favorite tutorials with us.
I remember making theses at Holy Maryters…of course Mom was the art teacher
I didn’t know she was the art teacher there. I was too little to remember. These are so much fun to make even a non-crafty “square” like you could do it. 😉
