Frightening Friday Finds

painted pumpkins

This week I have seen tons of great crafting and cooking ideas for Halloween, here are a few of my favorites.

This time of year everyone needs a recipe for edible fake blood and there’s a great tutorial for it over at Clockwork Lemon.  If you’re looking for a non blood related treat then check out these Halloween Whoopie Pies over at MarthaStuart.com.

On the crafting front Camilla Fabbri Designs has a great  post about making a fake braid hat (via Dollar Store Crafts) and I’m completely in love with these cute mini pumpkin lanterns which I hope to try making this weekend.

What frightening finds have you come across this week?

Oh, I may definitely have to make those mini pumpkin lanterns for the Halloween party I’m throwing — they look super cute. I wonder how long they’ll last (since I live in a warm place — we’re still getting up in the 80s here in Austin).

I’m thinking of making this cake: http://www.gourmet.com/recipes/2000s/2009/10/devils-food-cake-with-chocolate-spiderweb

It’s a bit above my skill-level, but I thought it would be fun to try. I’ve never done a layer cake before.

I’d love to see pictures of the pumpkin lanterns if you make them! That cake looks delicious and the coffee meringue frosting sounds amazing.

Oh, I’m certain to post pictures on FB if I make them. I’ve told my girlfriend that there will *definitely* need to be a trip to Michael’s this weekend so I can start plotting decorations and treats for our halloween party. I think I’m also going to make cupcakes with eyes. 🙂

Definitely post if you make the lanterns too!

So I did end up making the pumpkin lanterns (minus the string). If you’re interested I blogged about it. http://harmonicmama.com/2010/11/pumpkin-candles/
