A woman in PA had her 1 day old child removed from her custody after she tested positive for drugs at the hospital before birth.  The only problem is the woman has never taken drugs.  The culprit was a poppy seed bagel eaten hours before she gave birth.

As a woman who’s had two children in the state of Pennsylvania I was surprised to hear that some hospitals test all women for drugs while in labor and I haven’t confirmed it but it seems like it might be mandatory for women in Pennsylvania.  I understand the desire and possibly the need to do this but I do have issue with the fact that women aren’t informed that this is happnening.  They should at the very least be told that it’s occurring.  This poor woman had her newborn taken away for five days over a mistake.
